“The Bend: A Deeply Atypical Development”

The Seattle DJC Highlights the 9‑Block Project

Lorine Moellentine from our office, together with Eric Alozie from The Bend, wrote about a radical development happening in Georgetown: The Bend.

Their article in the Seattle DJC gets to the heart of what makes this project so vital—it’s a vision for equitable development that’s being shaped by community, for community. The Bend isn’t just offering housing; it’s creating space for connection, art, and placemaking in the Duwamish Valley.

Projects like The Bend don’t succeed by accident—they happen when people come together with urgency and intention. This rare development opportunity was embraced by community, because if they had not — market-rate development would have come to this part of Georgetown, and rebuilt it without them.
