Reinventing the Ball

The Play Impossible Pavilion will house an adventurous new product aimed at integrating technology and play. With a simple pyramid form, the pavilion provides an iconic setting for festivals, game day, or product launches. The luminous character creates curiosity of passers by, drawing in visitors who are eager to find out what is happening here.

The structural frame will be assembled from rental stage rigging, using ballast at each corner. A translucent skin, similar to sailcloth or reinforced mylar will attach to the frame, providing both a nighttime luminous volume and dynamic shadow struck surface in sunlight. Lighting will enhance the volume and movement within the pavilion, creating a beacon for play.

“Signal has been essential to my hardware start up. By engaging me in a storytelling process that envisions how my future customers will experience our product in an outdoor setting they greatly simplified our approach. The collaboration resulted in an invitation to play while extending our brand through a novel, iconic pavilion design.  Moreover they approached the design process in a modular fashion so we can readily adjust to various site proposals in the future. The resulting Play Impossible pavilion is legible and of equal value at multiple scales.”
